AHP Program Onboarding eLearning – Now Live!

RISSB is proud to launch the new eLearning program to onboard new Authorised Health Professionals (AHP) on 10 February 2025.

The program was developed in collaboration with the RISSB Network’s Chief Medical Officers Council (CMOC), National Transport Commission (NTC) and Metro Trains Australia (MTA).

The eLearning program will ensure AHPs clearly understand the requirements of Parts 4 and 5 of the National Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Worker. Parts 4 and 5 outline on the assessment and management of health conditions for Safety Critical Workers and Non-Safety Critical Workers

Dr Armand Casolin, Chair of CMOC and the CMO for TfNSW said, “it benefits everyone in the rail industry that AHPs be familiar with the National Standard and with the job demands of rail safety workers, in order to maximise the quality of health assessments and the safety of workers and the travelling public.

“This eLearning program enables consistent and comprehensive initial, and annual refresher training, of AHPs. It enhances the user experience by allowing self-paced learning, provides easier access to training for health professionals, and should increases the pool and the quality of health professionals to support the rail industry.”

So, what is the process to become an AHP?

Medical professionals interested in joining the AHP Program and becoming certified to conduct rail medical assessments must first visit the CMO Training Dates page and book/complete a briefing session with a Chief Medical Officer. This session will assess the medical professional’s eligibility based on their relevant knowledge and experience. If deemed eligible, the CMO will forward the medical professional’s details to the AHP Program. This will trigger an email to the medical professional containing login credentials and access to the AHP Portal.

Once logged in, the medical professional will be prompted to complete their registration by providing additional information and submitting the initial annual membership fee of $600 + GST. Subsequent annual membership fees will be $295 + GST.

After submitting the membership fee, the medical professional will gain access to the AHP Program Onboarding eLearning module. Upon completing this eLearning, they will be prompted to provide their clinic details. Once submitted, the medical professional will be listed in the AHP directory and officially become a registered AHP.

It is important to note that when logging in for the first time, the medical professional should have their AHPRA number ready, as it is required to complete the registration process.
